How often is the streetlight controller replaced?

  • by

The replacement cycle of street lamp controllers is not fixed and is influenced by various factors
1、 Quality factors
High quality products: If it is a high-quality and highly reliable street lamp controller, it may last for 10-15 years or even longer under normal usage conditions. For example, some controllers that use high-quality electronic components, have good heat dissipation design, and protection levels can effectively resist environmental interference and work stably for a long time. High end street light controllers have undergone rigorous testing for their internal circuit design, with high component selection standards and relatively long service life.
Poor quality products: Poor quality street light controllers may be prone to damage due to the use of low-quality electronic components such as capacitors, resistors, etc., or rough production processes, and may only malfunction after 1-3 years of use, requiring replacement.
2、 Environmental factors for use
Outdoor harsh environment: If the street lamp controller is installed in harsh environments such as seaside or chemical areas, its service life will be significantly shortened due to factors such as high humidity, high salt spray, and corrosive gases. For example, the streetlight controller installed at the seaside may accelerate the corrosion of metal components due to the high salt content in the air, and may need to be replaced in 5-7 years.
Extreme temperature environment: in areas with drastic temperature changes, such as the cold regions in the north or the hot regions in the south. In cold environments, the performance of electronic components may decrease, and the endurance of components such as batteries may also be affected; In high-temperature environments, the controller may experience accelerated component aging due to poor heat dissipation. In this case, the streetlight controller may need to be considered for replacement in 7-10 years.
3、 Workload factors
High load operation: If the street lamp controller is in a high load state for a long time, that is, it controls a large number of street lamps to frequently turn on and off, or needs to deal with the control of high-power street lamps, its internal components (such as relays, etc.) will wear and tear due to frequent actions. For example, in bustling commercial districts of cities, street lights have long on times, high power, and complex control requirements. Such street light controllers may need to be replaced in about 8-10 years.
Low load operation: Relatively speaking, in some areas with lower loads, such as rural roads, the working pressure of the street lamp controller is smaller, and the service life may be extended to about 12-15 years.
4、 Technological update factors
Functional update requirements: With the development of technologies such as smart city construction, the demand for intelligent street lamp control is becoming increasingly high. If the existing street light controller cannot meet new functions such as remote control, brightness adjustment, and automatic adjustment based on ambient light, even if it can still work normally, it may be replaced in about 3-5 years to adapt to new technology applications.
